Why Mara?
Mara is introduced in the book of Ruth in the bible as Naomi. Things have not gone so well for Naomi. Because of the loss she has suffered, her heart is broken. As a result she changes her name to Mara, which means bitter. What I like about Mara is despite her hurt, she is still able to be encouraging and loving to her daughter-in-law Ruth.
What's my point??? Sometimes things don't work out the way we would have liked them to. We look at our own garden and it's filled with weeds, but we should still be able to appreciate and rejoice the flowers blooming in the garden of our neighbors.
amen!
